The Annual Maria Philip Memorial Inter Collegiate Debate Competition 2017 wasorganized by XIME Bangalore. It had two Zonal Semi-final rounds on the 23rd September 2017, and was held in PSG Institute of Management, Coimbatore and XIME, Chennai with 11 and 9 teams participating respectively. The top three winners from each zone joined the Bangalore teams and competed in the finals. The Finals of the Annual Maria Philip Memorial Inter Collegiate Debate Competition 2017 was on the 28th September 2017 at the XIME Bangalore campus, and a total of 12 teams participated in this competition.
The participants debated on the topic: “Young India: Demographic Dividend or Ticking Time-Bomb”. Mr. Amitabh Jaipuria, President and CEO, Quess Corp, was the Chairman of the Panel of Judges & Chief Guest for the debate competition, panel members were Mr. B. Venkataramana, Group President - HR, Landmark Group, Mr. Bhaskar Das, Former Head of HR, Cognizant & Partner - Think Talent, and Ms. Christina Ghose, Managing Director, Snap Offices.
Ms. Shwetha Grace Eapen & Mr. Ramakrishnan Srinivasan from Madras Christian College emerged as winners and bagged the prestigious rolling trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. Malvika G. & Vaishnavi Narayanan from Jyothi Nivas College, Bangalore were selected as the first runners up and they took home a cash prize of Rs. 25,000. Ms. Claire C John & Ms. Parvathi Arul Joshi from St. Joseph’s College, Irinjalakuda were selected as the second runners up. Ms. Shwetha Grace Eapen from Madras Christian College also won the title of the best speaker and won the cash prize of Rs.15,000.
