Ph.D. at XIME, Bangalore

XIME was established in 1991 by a group of eminent academicians under the leadership of Prof. J. Philip, Former Director of IIM Bangalore. XIME is a leading Business School in India. Research Centre at XIME, Bangalore provides guidance assistance, infrastructure and academic support for Faculty and research scholars with high degree of professional competence and commitment upholding with high Research standards.

Doctoral Programme (Ph.D.)

XIME (Xavier Institute of Management & Entrepreneurship) has been recognized as a Research Centre by University of Mysore from the academic year 2015 -16. The aim of XIME Research Centre Ph.D programme is committed to providing a nurturing and challenging environment for its doctoral students. XIME has seven recognised Research Guides specialized in various areas like Marketing, International Business, Finance, Business Excellence, Information System, Business Strategy, General Management, Knowledge Management, Innovation, Economics and several other allied subjects.

XIME Research Centre plays the role of an information provider, facilitator and agent catering to the needs of research aspirants. XIME aims at excelling in research and bringing about revolutionary change keeping in mind the management needs of the future. The programme is planned to provide an opportunity to attain the maximum potential in their field through intensive research.

XIME envisages a greater emphasis on academic research in management. There are high expectations from the scholars to produce research work of excellent quality. The quality research at XIME is measured by publication in Top-ranked academic journals with a high citation index. XIME Subscribes to all leading academic database like SAGE and Ebsco to support research projects.

The programme emphasizes preparing the candidates to understand the complexities of business and its social and international contexts while developing a specialized expertise and the research skills.


Ph.D. Committee

Admission to Ph.D. programme and conduct of Ph.D. program will be overseen by a committee coordinated by Dean (Research). Director will be the chairman. A third member will be drawn from the available Ph.D. guides/Senior faculty members.

Presently, 25 scholars are doing their Ph.D. degrees under XIME Research Centre and they are at various stages of their research. Three scholars have successfully completed their Pre-Thesis Colloquium and likely to get their Doctoral degrees by April 2021. Following are the list of scholars working under XIME:

Eligibility Criteria for Admission


Ph. D. admissions at XIME Research Centre are governed by the Mysore University admission rules notified on the website of the University of Mysore. Apart from the academic requirements prescribed by Mysore University, XIME prescribes that the Research scholars to publish innovative research articles with high impact factor and undertake research projects of international/national funding agencies.

As per the existing rules of the University of Mysore, a candidate must have a Master’s Degree or any other Degree / Diploma of any recognized university/institution with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent CGPA /Grade. A candidate who has completed M.Phil. with a minimum of 55% or equivalent grade is eligible for admission even if his/her marks in master’s degree is less than 55% provided the candidate has got admission to M.Phil. by an entrance examination.

However, this condition is relaxed to 50% in case of:

           a) SC/ST candidates/Cat-I candidates.

        b) In-service candidates with a minimum of five years of regular experience associated with the teaching profession as teacher’s/library professionals/physical education instructors/laboratory staff in educational institutions.

           c) A candidate who has completed master’s degree prior to 19 Sept 1991.

2. The candidate shall also appear for the Entrance Test conducted by the University of Mysore. A candidate securing at least 55 marks out of 100 (50 marks in the case of SC/ST/Cat-I candidates) in the test shall be declared as eligible and can apply for the Ph.D. admission. The following categories are exempted from the Entrance Test:

  • Candidates who have qualified for UGC/ CSIR(JRF) Fellowships through UGC/CSIR NET Examinations/SLET/GATE.
  • A candidate who have completed M.Phil. course/who have joined M.Phil. course are exempted from the entrance test provided the M.Phil./equivalent course was through an entrance examination.

Selection of candidates will be based on academic records, work experience, if any, marks secured in the Entrance Examination, and interview conducted at XIME, Bangalore. A limited number of positions as Teaching/Research Assistants of XIME are available for full-time research scholars. Ph.D. Candidates will have to pay the prescribed fees of XIME as well as the University.
