Prof Bhatta has done his B.Tech. in Electronics & Communication Engg from JNTU College of Engineering in Kakinada. Thereafter he has completed an 18 months Post Graduate Programme in Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics) from the Air Force Technical College. Following that he has done MBA in Operations Research and Ph.D. in Quality Control & Reliability in 1990, both from the University of Poona.
In the initial part of his Career, he worked as an Aeronautical Engineer Defence and then worked as a Scientist in the Defense Research & Development Organization and had an opportunity to work under the guidance of our former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on several projects of National Importance.
He moved to corporate life in 2003, initially as a Vice President of a Telecom Company called Quasar Innovations Pvt Ltd and then moved to IT Industry and spent 10 Plus years in Tata Consultancy Services in 2004. In his decade long career in TCS, he held several roles like Global head of Embedded Systems Delivery operations operating IT Business in 14 Countries, Head of Domestic Delivery Operations and. Delivery operations in the African Continent. Finally, he moved to a corporate role as the Global program Director of Business Excellence.
While in Defense, Dr Bhatta has taught MBA students at PUMBA (Pune University MBA Centre) for 2 years during 1986-1988. He moved to Academics on a full-time basis in 2014, initially as a Professor at Indian Institute of Management, Indore where he handled subjects of Information Systems Area, Strategy Area, Business Excellence and Innovation. At IIM Indore, he was also the Chairman of Industry Interface & Executive Education. Presently, Prof Bhatta is the Dean (research) at Xavier Institute on Management & Entrepreneurship, Bangalore since 06 April 2018.
Dr Bhatta is Six Sigma Black Belt, an Agile Certified Practitioner from PMI, Certified Agile Scrum Master from Scrum Alliance and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). He is Certified in “Qualitative Research Methods” from London School of Economics, “Innovation Management” from Steinbeis Germany and “Case Method Teaching” from Harvard Business School, Teaching with Simulation from Harvard Business School, Market Opportunity Navigator Certification from “Where to Play” Institute, Israel, “Competing in Business through AI Powered Supply Chains” by Prof David Simchi Levi of MIT, USA and Project Management Certification from IIM, Ahmedabad.
He has published papers in Harvard, Journal of International Business Education and several other international Journals. He has presented his papers at International Conferences in UK, USA, Canada, Hong Kong etc. He has published a total of 33 Research Papers. He has authored a part of book on Agile Methodology & Information Technology Project Management which was published by Taylor & Francis and Routledge, UK and another chapter in a book on Digital Transformation published by Cambridge University Press,
At XIME, he teaches and consults in Business Strategy, Agile methodology, Innovation, Critical Chain Project Management and Design Thinking. He consults several Industry houses on Innovation, Design Thinking, Project & Program Management, Theory of Constraints and Agile Methodology.
Dr Bhatta received several awards & accolades while in Defence, TCS, DRDO & during his academic Career. Notable of these are Commendations from Air Officer Commanding in Chief, Chief of the Air Staff, Cash Award for his contribution during Kargil war, Best Project Manager award in TCS and best teacher award while in academics. He was felicitated as 'Distinguished Alumni' by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada JNTUK during an event on March 10, 2016 by Prof. VSS Kumar, Vice Chancellor, JNTUK. He is a member and vice Chairman of the Board of Governors of JNTU CEK and also member of Board of studies of several major academic Institutions.
