Mr. M. Balachandran is a distinguished banking and financial services professional with over 35 years of experience across India, Germany, and South Asia. His expertise spans Pension Funds, Treasury Management, Asset and Risk Management, Banking Operations, Inspection & Audit, and Financial Advisory Services.
He holds a Master’s degree in Economics with specialization in Econometrics, Welfare Economics, and Public Sector Economics from the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, and a Bachelor’s (Honours) degree in Economics from Hindu College, University of Delhi.
During his distinguished career with the State Bank of India (SBI), he held several senior leadership positions, including Managing Director and CEO of SBI Pension Funds Pvt. Ltd., Executive Vice President of SBI DFHI Ltd., General Manager of SBI Overseas Branch, Bengaluru, and Head of the Central Audit Unit, Inspection and Management Audit Department at SBI Corporate Centre. He also held key leadership roles in Treasury Operations, Risk Control, and Banking Operations at SBI Corporate Centre, Mumbai.
Following his tenure at SBI, he served as Advisor – Financial Services at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), contributing his expertise in financial services and advisory assignments.
He currently serves as External Advisor and Member of the Board of Directors of the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR), contributing to policy and institutional development initiatives.
